Armadillo

The versatile nature of an enclosure with seating allows our design to be placed anywhere. We placed the structure on the LTU campus, in between the three residence halls. We wanted our enclosure to be a resting spot in an outdoor area, which influenced the `overhang` design. Japanese wood joinery provides interesting case studies -- we appreciated the connection of material without glue or bolts. Our interest in Japanese wood joinery led us to study the waffle structure precedents. An alternative style of radial waffle structure appealed to our design and production initiations.

Carson Stickney
Carson is currently a Sophomore in the Bachelor of Science in Architecture program at Lawrence Technological University. While architecture is his main focus, Carson also enjoys studying the cinematography of major films, as well as the emotional impact that a scene can have on a viewer, and tries to find ways to use some of the same techniques in his architectural compositions.

Maggie Kuhns
Maggie Kuhns is completing her second year studying civil engineering and architecture. She has greatly enjoyed her involvement with Prototyping and Fabrication and the avenues of work it has opened. When not in school, she loves urban hiking through cities and exploring her environment through photography.

Devin Derr
Devin Derr just completed his second year towards earning a Bachelors in Science of Architecture. This past semester, Devin greatly enjoyed experimenting in his studio courses, each providing new insight and interest to expand his understanding of architecture. When out of the studio, Devin likes observing and interacting with plants and nature, anything from hiking to horticulture.

Kendall Hands
Kendall Hands is now a third-year student in earning her dual bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture and Architecture. Growing up in Metro Detroit has piqued her interest in getting involved with the adaptive reuse of old buildings to provide modern amenities. When not completing projects she likes to sit and sketch the world around her.

Allyza-Danica Valino
