Tool Kit

The prompt for this project was to design a tool kit that could hold at least 5 objects. There was an additional requirement that the tool kit needed to be constructed out of at least 70 percent soft material. I chose to use leather and felt for my soft materials, and gold plated snaps as my accent hardware. I decided to design and construct a plant starter kit bag, a growing kit, and a plant carrier.

When designing this bag, I knew that everything had to be intentional and purposeful. I knew I wanted the design to be made up of limited pieces to put together so if it were to be mass produced it would be efficient, simple, and still enticing to the eye. The wrap goes around a rectangular base then transitions into a rounded cone top. When the user opens and or unwraps the bag, it becomes a ceremony that mimics the unfurling of a leaf or the blooming of a flower. When a leaf unfurls on a plant, plant owners get excited by the experience of their plant growing and evolving into a more magnificent being.

I am a junior in the College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University where I major in Industrial Design. I expect to graduate in May of 2022.

I’m influenced by bright colors and intriguing textiles and like incorporating those aspects into my designs. My aim is to create evocative experiences through my designs.
