The WaterSHED

Alexandra Hernandez

The WaterSHED is a conceptual design of a community athletic center in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, designed with glulam timber portal frames as its primary structural system. Its innovative roof, covered in photovoltaic array shingles, generates renewable energy while capturing and channeling rainwater. The site is strategically oriented to shed water into the wetlands to the southwest, fostering ecological balance. This project blends recreational functionality with sustainable design, prioritizing environmental stewardship. The Watershed exemplifies a forward-thinking architectural approach, harmonizing human activity with the natural landscape.
