Stitching the Fabric: Updating and re-integrating pre-zoning mixed-use typology into fragmented sub-urban residential neighborhoods in Detroit
Alex Lundy

As the suburbs have developed throughout history, they have gradually been distilled into simpler base elements, gradually losing many beneficial parts which they once contained. At the same time, historic suburbs have been systematically dismantled to conform to these new car centric suburban ideals. This ultimately has removed the ability for these spaces to effectively support the growing need for community in daily life and should be improved through the re-implementation of historical neighborhood design and select modern urban concepts to better suit living needs. This project proposes a design investigation which reintroduces community elements to a historically dis-invested neighborhood to promote the growth of community and better serve its inhabitance through a community focused in-fill project.
