Arch Fitness

Rebecca Morales

Located in Ashmun Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, the ARCH Fitness Center is a sustainably designed wellness hub that merges seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Integrated into the site's existing hills, the building features a flowing green roof that doubles as an accessible garden for rooftop activities, promoting outdoor wellness and ecological stewardship.

Inside, the center offers a full spectrum of recreational and educational amenities: fitness and weight areas, multipurpose studios, classrooms, indoor basketball courts, rock climbing walls, and a floating running track. A swimming pool supports both lap and leisure use. The lobby includes a café and childcare area, creating a welcoming, community-focused entry point.

Environmental systems are central to the design. A Living Machine treats wastewater onsite, while living walls contribute to indoor air purification and biophilic wellness. Daylight floods the interior through large curtainwalls and operable skylights, supporting passive ventilation with HVLS fans. Solar panels span the south façade, rooftop, and parking canopies to power the facility sustainably.

ARCH Fitness is a forward-thinking example of performance-driven architecture—promoting health, sustainability, and community connection in a cohesive, site-responsive design.
