Fuzzë Chair

Megan Miller

This chair design, named “Fuzzë,” explores the contrast between soft and sharp elements, combining comfort with structure. The name merges “fuzz” (soft) and “fuse” (sharp), symbolizing the inviting fuzzy texture of the seat and the strength of its steel legs. Designed as a mobile lounge or desk chair, its handles are positioned for easy movement and accessibility, whether seated or standing.

The design process used rapid ideation through timed sketching, leading to a final form that incorporates multiple user-centric features. The chair was built using diverse techniques such as woodworking, 3D printing, upholstery, and metalworking. The seat back’s 3D printed frame, though a bold choice, significantly reduced costs—cutting expenses from $50–$100 to just a few dollars in PLA. Structural integrity was reinforced using wooden bracing to compensate for PLA’s limitations.
