Sunrising Phoenix
Hannah Miller

Sunrise of the Phoenix provides a holistic home
environment for pre-teens and teenagers that
encourage relationship building with a focus on life
after foster care. This design will create community
spaces while maintaining private spaces to
encourage independence and relationship
building. Utilizing an open plan in the community
areas while creating different level of acoustics and
closed spaces the more private that area becomes. A
sense of home will be brought into the facility not
just by aesthetic but functionality as well. The design
will have a connection to nature and a soothing
environments. Through maintaining the qualities of
trauma informed design the materials and
furnishing will reflect this nature to ensure the
comfortability of the youth. Sophisticated colors will
be utilized in the space and flexibility will also be
utilized in the space to encourage self expression
through their healing process. Overall, the design
will encourage recovery of mental health, growth
in mindset, and development of life after care.
