Soo Health Rec Center

Maya Dandachli

The Sault Ste. Marie Recreation Center was designed with sustainability and inclusivity at its core, following LEED principles. The curved diagrid roof structure was a purposeful response to local climate, helping shed snow, reduce wind pressure, and improve seasonal solar performance. This supports passive heating and reduces overall energy use. The building’s program is open and internally connected, encouraging movement and visibility between spaces. This layout supports community interaction while maintaining clear wayfinding and accessibility for users of all ages and abilities. The structure also enhances daylighting and supports solar integration, limiting reliance on mechanical systems and improving overall building efficiency.
